Norvik Press was founded by Professor James McFarlane and Professor Janet Garton at the University of East Anglia in 1986 with the aim of producing good quality English translations from Nordic literature or studies of Nordic writers. Displayed here are the first catalogues of the press which is today based at the UCL Department of Scandinavian Studies. The catalogues feature on the cover the iconic logo of the press, a black-and-white designed based on a drawing of a tenth-century Viking brooch. Today, Norvik Press continues to produce translations as well as publish the journal Scandinavica. An International Journal of Scandinavian Studies and Swedish Book Review. As of 2020 both journals are now online and open access.
