The UCL Scandinavian Rare Books Collections include a number of historical materials on language learning such as grammars, parlours and dictionaries from as early as the eighteenth century. Examples of these are: An Essay on a Methodical English Grammar for the Swedes (1799) by Ivar Kraak; English and Danish Dialogues. Originally written in English and German by Mr J. Marston. Adapted to the Use of Danes (1812) by Frederick Schneider; Dr E. Rask’s Danish Grammar (1846) edited by T. G. Repp. These materials were used a joint Scandinavian language sessions in 2020 as part of discussions around language pedagogy.
